Role
Marino signed an eight-year extension with a $6.75 million average annual value on July 21, 2026. The total is $54 million, according to the AP report carried by KSL, which also says he was heading into the final year of a deal that paid $4.4 million a year.
The extension followed his best season. In 2025-26 he played all but two games, 80 of 82, and had 4 goals and 32 assists for 36 points with a plus-42. This season he has 1 goal and 2 assists in seven games and averages 20:15. He was a sixth-round pick of Edmonton in 2015.
Outlook
Marino doesn't pile up points, and he doesn't need to. General manager Bill Armstrong called him a key long-term piece who stays calm under pressure. Our take: that matches what we see, the safe play almost every shift.
We think that plus-42 won't repeat, because plus-minus follows goalie luck and linemates more than any one defenseman. We'd put him at 30 to 40 points with a smaller plus-minus. The contract runs a long time, and we think the team believes in him.
