Our take

Role

Utah got Vincent Trocheck from the Rangers on July 1 for Sean Durzi, prospect Cole Beaudoin and a 2027 third-round pick. The Mammoth are using the center on the right wing of the top line, with Clayton Keller and Nick Schmaltz. Tourigny called him strong on faceoffs and "really good defensively." Trocheck has won 59.1 percent of his draws, and he has 2 goals and 1 assist in 7 games.

Outlook

Last season in New York he had 53 points in 67 games, with a minus-16 rating. He is 33 and carries a $5.625 million cap hit that runs through 2028-29, per NHL.com's trade story. His best recent year was 77 points in 2023-24.

Our take: he is here for the dirty work, and the early returns are fine. Keller and Schmaltz do the scoring. We would call anything near 50 points a win, and we think the faceoffs and the penalty kill will keep the deal from looking bad for a couple of years yet.
